The examination calendar at the DTU

At the end of the semester in which I studied at the DTU, I needed to find information about exams. The dates are decided well in advance, but the times and the place are told only a few days before.

At the beginning I was a bit afraid, then I was able to find everything. I discovered that the most important information about exams is given only in Danish. For this reason, I want to give some advice to those who are in the same situation.

There’s nothing worse than knowing the day of an exam, but not knowing where it will be. Look at the difference between the page in Danish and the one in English:

While I am writing this post, the page in Danish contains a notice:

Lokaleoversigt og tider for eksamen vil være tilgængelig en ugen inden eksamensperioden begynder på “Infosite for studerende” (kun tilgængelig for ansatte og studerende).

The meaning is:

Exam rooms and timetables will be available one week before the exam periods starts in the «Infosite for students» (only available for personnel and students).

The link sends you to Portalen.

As you have seen, the “magic word” is lokaleoversigt. In particular you can search:

  • Lokaleoversigt for vintereksamen for winter exams
  • Lokaleoversigt for sommereksamen for summer exams

The new version of the DTU website also contains a section called undervisnings lokaler. It allows to search rooms for classes and exams.

Il calendario degli esami al DTU

Alla fine del semestre in cui ho studiato al DTU, ho avuto la necessità di trovare le informazioni sugli esami. Le date vengono decise in largo anticipo, ma gli orari e il luogo vengono comunicati solo alcuni giorni prima.

All’inizio ero un po’ spaventato, poi sono riuscito a trovare tutto. Ho scoperto che le informazioni più importanti sugli esami vengono fornite solo in danese. Per questo motivo, voglio dare qualche consiglio a chi si trova nella stessa situazione.

Non c’è niente di peggio del sapere il giorno di un esame, ma non sapere dove sarà. Guardate la differenza tra la pagina in danese e quella in inglese:

Il significato è:

Le stanze e gli orari degli esami saranno disponibili una settimana prima che il periodo degli esami inizi nell’«Infosite per gli studenti» (disponibile solo per il personale e gli studenti).

Come avete visto, la “parola magica” è lokaleoversigt. In particolare potete cercare:

  • Lokaleoversigt for vintereksamen per gli esami invernali
  • Lokaleoversigt for sommereksamen per gli esami estivi

La nuova versione del sito web del DTU contiene anche una sezione chiamata undervisnings lokaler. Essa permette di cercare le aule delle lezioni e degli esami.

Written exams examples for Computer Science Modelling

It seems that at DTU it is not common to give some examples of old written exams to the students. Given that I attended the Computer Science Modelling course, I was able to access a “fake” exam and I scanned a copy of the real examination I did in June 2013. As a bonus, I used an OCR software (article in Italian) to make the PDF searchable. 😉

Sembra che al DTU non sia comune fornire alcuni esempi di vecchi esami scritti agli studenti. Dato che ho fatto il corso di Computer Science Modelling, ho potuto accedere a un “finto” esame e ho scansionato una copia del vero compito che ho fatto io a giugno 2013. Come aggiunta, ho usato un software OCR per rendere il PDF ricercabile. 😉

Sono stato accettato al DTU

Mi scuso per non avervi tenuti aggiornati: circa a metà ottobre ho ricevuto l’email ufficiale che mi confermava di essere stato accettato al DTU!

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted as an exchange student at The Technical University of Denmark. You will find your Acceptance Letter and some practical information about your studies at the DTU in the attachment. This Email is the official DTU Acceptance Letter and you will not receive a copy of it by post.

Come scritto nell’email, non ho ricevuto la conferma per posta. Tuttavia, se vi può essere utile, sappiate che il learning agreement firmato mi è stato rispedito. Quindi avrei potuto inviare l’originale senza preoccuparmi di farmi fare una copia certificata.

Allegati all’email c’erano tre documenti PDF:

  • Informazioni su CampusNet e Portalen che potete scaricare da qui
  • Lettera di accettazione su carta intestata
  • Fogli informativi che riassumono quello che trovate sul sito, per scaricarli fate click qui

Ho anche avuto conferma che parteciperò al corso EILC di lingua Danese, quindi ho acquistato il biglietto aereo: partirò il 6 gennaio! Vi scriverò un altro articolo più dettagliato in merito. 😉

I’ve been accepted at the DTU

I apologize for not keeping you updated: about in the middle of October I received the official email confirming that I’ve been accepted at the DTU!

Dear Andrea Lazzarotto,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted as an exchange student at The Technical University of Denmark. You will find your Acceptance Letter and some practical information about your studies at the DTU in the attachment. This Email is the official DTU Acceptance Letter and you will not receive a copy of it by post.

As written in the email, I didn’t receive the confirmation by post. However, if it can be useful to you, keep in mind that the signed learning agreement was sent back to me. So I could have sent the original without caring to make a certified copy.

Attached to the email there were three PDF documents:

  • Information regarding CampusNet and Portalen which you can download from here
  • Acceptance letter on letterheaded paper
  • Information sheets which summarize what you find on the website, to download them click here

I also received the confirmation that I will take part in the Danish language EILC course, so I bought the plane ticket: I’ll leave on the 6th of January! I’ll write a more detailed article about that. 😉
